Solar eclipse / TIGER buttons up

    The most exciting event today was the partial solar eclipse over McMurdo.  About 75% of the sun was covered by the moon.  All over town, people were collecting various filters, welder's goggles and exposed x-ray film so they could look at the eclipse.  Down here at the weatherport, we were able to look directly at it through two sheets of aluminized mylar (which we use on TIGER's thermal shield).  But as we made our way up to the galley for lunch, some people were there looking at it through and optical density filter.

    I got some pretty good pictures of it through the optical density filter.  Don't let the apparent darkness around the picture of the sun fool you, it didn't really get much darker around here, no matter how much we would have liked that to have happened.
    After the thrill of the solar eclipse was over, we decided that it was time to button TIGER up permanently.  Dana began the task of bolting on TIGER's EMI shield permanently.  ANITA will follow soon and be integrated into the gondola in the next few days.
